What recruits do you guys see leaving? As of now, none of the committed ones have said anything suggesting they may leave, but with each coaching change, it's entirely possible.

I don't know if any of the currently signed recruits will head out, but the verbal ones may take a hard look. I just hope that Beas, the 7 foot, five star recruit makes his way over!

Matt Gatens has already stated that he is still coming to Iowa, and he was going to personally contact Hamga and try to get him to stick with his verbal.

The three kids that signed LOIs would have to be released from them. Otherwise, they are committed to the school and would have to attend a lower division school or a prep school (a la Smith last year) to break the commitment. I do believe, however, that if the recruits requested a release that it would be granted.

From dmregister.com:

Gatens' father says recruit still committed to Iowa
By ANDREW LOGUE

March 23, 2007

Matt Gatens still expects to play basketball for the Hawkeyes, according to his father.

Gatens, a 6-foot-5 junior guard at Iowa City High, committed to the University of Iowa before coach Steve Alford left Thursday to take the job at New Mexico. (http://desmoinesregister.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070323/SPORTS020504/70323029/1003/SPORTS)

If I was a recruit, I would not want to make a decision until the new coach was hired. Nothing is worse than looking back and realizing that a mistake was made...

Yeah, that's a great point. I think the same can probably be said for the players currently in the program. They will wait to see who is hired before deciding whether or not to stay.

I've already answered this question in an existing thread (http://www.hawkeyehideout.com/showpost.php?p=4635&postcount=11).

You answered in that thread earlier today. This thread was created two days ago ;)

Dude, seriously, you are such a spammer.

Case in point: a thread you started (the one I replied to) in another forum titled "What players do you see leaving?"

C'mon...

That thread was directed towards who people thought would leave that are currently playing for Iowa. This thread is directed towards who people think will leave that are currently recruited to Iowa. Again, nothing wrong with having a variety of topics to spur some activity.

Okay...you win.

I'm going to go start a thread about what "future" recruits may not consider Iowa now that Alfie is gone.

;)

It sucks, but it isn't really a surprise. He was totally a Neal guy. I wouldn't even be surprised if he followed them to Lobo-land...

At one point the thought was that Hamga would try to enter Iowa early and qualify for the 2007 season. I never heard word of him enrolling thins spring, and assume it didn't happen. If he is "open" a 7 footer should be in heavy demand.

Update on Peterson from dmregister.com:

Hawkeyes remain in the lead for recruit
Maryland point guard Peterson says he'll wait to meet the new Iowa coach.

By RANDY PETERSON

March 27, 2007

One of the top unsigned point guards in the nation said Monday he would play Iowa's waiting game.

"I still really like Iowa, so I'm planning to wait until they get a coach, and then see if the new coach wants me like coach (Steve) Alford did," said Jeff Peterson, a senior at DeMatha High School in Hyattsville, Md. "I'm content right now to wait, because I'm still leaning toward Iowa; it's just a matter if I have the same connection with the new coach that I did with coach Alford." That's good news. Although I think it's a matter of timing for Peterson. I know schools like Xavier were interested in him before he verbaled to Iowa, but many of those schools have since found replacements.

On the whole, it's a positive move that he's willing to wait the process out.

Nice...a kid who really wants to be a HAWKEYE...not just an Alford/Neal fan.

Thanks for posting that Sean.
