Iowa (1-0) vs Northern Illinois (0-1)
GAME RECAP
BROUGHT TO YOU BY HAWKEYE HIDEOUT

The stage was set for an ugly game today in Chicago, with Iowa sporting a new offense, as was Northern Illinois. What we got was what was expected; a defense dominated game by the Hawks, and missed opportunity on the offensive side of the ball.

The first quarter started off slow, ending with a 0-0 score. But, good news was to come in the second quarter, when the Iowa offense awoke and began ripping off big plays and powering their way up and down the field. Iowa's first score of the new season was a 7 yard touchdown run by Albert Young, which put Iowa up 6-0 after the missed extra point by Austin Signor.

The 1st half scoring wasn't done. After stuffing Northern Illinois' offense again, the Hawks were given decent field position, and began to work on their second scoring drive - which took just under 4 minutes, but went 95 yards for the Brandon Myers Touchdown.

The 2nd half was dominated by the run. After seeing the receivers drop more balls than they should have, Coach Ferentz made some adjustments, and the Hawks came out with a 3:1 run-pass ratio. This worked wonders, as not only did the Hawks chew up clock, but they ran with ease over an over-matched Northern Illinois front line.

Had it not been for several miscues on special teams, which saw a missed extra point, a missed field goal, and a costly penalty right before the half that allowed NIU to get back in the game with a field goal, the game would have been a lot different. The receivers dropped roughly half the passes that made it to them, but Jake Christensen still put up 128 yards through the air and threw one touchdown.

For the first time in over a year, the Hawkeyes went without a turnover. The Hawkeye defense took 3 balls away from Northern Illinois, which starts the season off on a good note. The defense lived up to their hype, recording 3 sacks for a loss of 31 yards on NIU quarterback Dan Nicholson, and held the rest of the NIU running game for 51 yards, which brings the net running game to a dismal 20 yards for the Huskies.

Iowa faired much better on the ground, with both Damian Sims and Albert Young recording over 100 yards for the game - Sims with 110 and Young with 150.

The Hawkeyes are back in action for a rematch of last year's 2OT game against the Syracuse Orange in Historic Kinnick Stadium at 7:00 Central Time on the Big Ten Network.
