Is that a picture of you with Hayden Fry? If so, that's really cool... I would really like to meet him sometime.

It is, he was (of all things) doing a promotion at the Menard's here in Council Bluffs. He was/is the best! Exceeded every expectation I had. There were hundreds of people there and he took the time to talk to and make it a personal experience for everyone that stood in line and waited.

My seven month old son (Hayden Daniel (after Gable)), who was 3.5 months at the time, got to meet his namesake and have his picture taken with him and received a personalized autograph from him as well. Coach said that Little Hayden was the 27th child that he was aware of that had been named after him.

It really was a thrill to get to stand there and talk to the man who made me realize how great it is to be a Hawkeye.

If you would like you can check out a larger version of my profile pic and the pic of Hayden & Hayden at my, not very well kept up to date, blog.

Wow, that's a great story. I've heard Hayden is a great guy. Some close friends of my family are friends with Hayden and his family. We have never had the pleasure to meet him, since these people live out in Nevada, but I hope some day I'll be able to sit down with him.

It's pretty cool that you named your kid after him. He is one of the very few people that I'd ever consider naming any of my kids after. I would say Nile, by that may be a little.... dated. Anyways, that's really cool!

I am a huge Kinnick buff too. I have a pair of ticket stubs and a program from the 1939 Notre Dame game.

I am still working on my wife on the Nile thing...it could happen if another boy were to arrive. Even if only the middle name. All things worth doing are worth negotiating.

Heh, VERY true. I honestly think it's a great tribute to people who are more than just football guys. Kinnick was much more than just a Heisman winner, he was a student, and a patriot. Hayden has a good head on his shoulders, and has always done what he thought was right. Two guys I'm proud to say are Hawkeyes, and I'm glad I can say I'm in the same Hawkeye family as them.

Ferentz is up there too... we got real lucky when Hayden joined in.

Yeah, I am a big Ferentz fan as well. In fact I think Iowa has quality people in most all of their Head Coaching positions.

Had Kinnick not had the unfortunate accident that he did I have no doubt in my mind that the man would have been President.

Nile In '08 (if only),

PS - This is my 40th post I believe that I am a full fledged member now...:P

Yeah, I agree. He died a hero. Turned down the NFL, and become a hero. I agree... Iowa has quality people embedded in the program. We are lucky for that. I don't think I can name another program in the country that can say this much about all of their coaches.
