I saw him a year ago. He's a beast, and he's quick. I just hope he has a good head on his shoulders to play at the D-I level. Although, I saw him as a Freshman in HS, so he's got a bit to go before he has to worry about that.

Two questions:

1. How does he get his helmet on over his hair.

2. Doesn't every football player from Valley go to ISU?

Two questions:

1. How does he get his helmet on over his hair.

2. Doesn't every football player from Valley go to ISU?

1. Very carefully

2. Yes, and they go there to die. Jason Scales was possibly one of the best running backs the state of Iowa has ever seen, and he is in his Junior year, and he has barely played a down.

Joe Johnson cut Zach's hair so his helmet fits better now!

I hate to say this... but does anyone else see the eerie resemblance to O.J. Simpson? Seriously... if you look at this picture long enough a white ford bronco will pull up in your driveway

When I first saw the pic, I thought it was a young Ben Wallace.

Yes & he's a good kid. He's trying to gain weight for next season.

That's pretty cool. Valley has dominated state football over the past 5-6 years, so I'm sure he'll turn a lot of heads at Iowa. I'm also glad to see a Valley kid look at Iowa, because for the most part, they've been going to ISU, and this may just be my opinion, but I think a lot of them would be better suited at Iowa. Jason Scales for example. He went to the wrong school to be a good running back.

I couldn't agree more. Scales would have been better off staying away from ISU. We would love to see Zach play for Iowa one day & we're keeping our fingers crossed that all goes well the next 2 seasons! The 2009 class was undefeated as freshmen and also as sophomores so we are looking forward to Junior & Senior years. There are several good players moving to varsity next year.

Yeah, Scales went to ISU when ISU was primarily pass offense.... now they're even more or a pass offense. Todd Blythe, who I went to school with for two years, played against Scales several times, and IMO, Scales had more raw talent and potential than Blythe. And look at the two in comparison now.

It's good to hear that ya'll have a strong couple of teams coming up, I just hope more of them start looking towards Iowa. Valley and Dowling produce some of the best talent in the state, and it would be great if Ferentz and co. could tap that.

I think Ferentz & Co. can tap just about any in-state program they want if they set their mind to it...but they can afford to be more selective with the Iowa talent, especially now that we've got that Glenville, OH pipeline growing.

Yeah, they hit gold when they missed Teddy Ginn Jr. The coaching staff was so impressed with how the Iowa coaching staff handled missing Ginn, that now we have a major pipeline coming out of there, moreso than OSU does.

I agree with this except for the last bolded bit. Iowa still only gets the kids that OSU does not want (or don't have scholarships for)...but the "leftovers" from Glenville are still better than the cream from most others.

Oh, how I hate, Ohio State,
Sean

Well welcome to HawkeyeHideout Zach's brother. Nevermind the guy who said he looks like OJ Simpson, he's stuck way out in the West Coast, it clouds his judgement ;).

And about you being an ISU fan... we can't all be perfect ;). Actually, I'm not perfect either, I'm a student at ISU, lol.

Hope I didn't offend you or your brother, I was being honest "cloudy judgement" or not

I watched his videos and he looks like quite the package, running, catching... even special teams. Stay tuned over the next few years for some Autograph requests ;)

I'm looking forward to watching what happens with the 2009 recruit lists on this site over the next couple of years since both this site and these boys are so new. It will be interesting to see what these "new" boys look like on the recruiting pages and watch how they develop over the next couple of years.

With Joe Johnson out for a while, is Zach going to see more action?

Valley Mom
09-11-2007, 01:13 PM
Yes, he's been moved up to starting RB as of last night's practice.

Joe's a great kid, so it's not exactly how I would have wanted Zach to get that position. However, I have no doubt that Zach will step up as he has the the first couple of games (and late last season) and showcase his own talent. :)

My heart goes out to Joe who's a super nice kid. I wish him nothing but the very best.

Yea i went to the ottumwa game and saw joe get hurt. I was all "that sucks". Im not much of a football follower but isnt the whole knee gettin hurt thing like a really bad thing to happen. hopefully he'll be better soon so we can see him out their again, of course as long as zach gets alot of play time to. lol.

Well, Zach torched the Indianola defense tonight...and when i say "torched" i mean literally lit them on fire and watch them shrivel into nothing. This kid has great speed, and is a very hard runner. He's also very effective on special teams and in the passing game. I was impressed to say the least.

Yeah i saw that...very impressed. Hopefully he continues to improve.
