Well, more than likely that is. With the win over #1 Iowa State, and Oklahoma State's loss at Penn State, Iowa will likely move up to the #1 slot in at least one of the two major wrestling polls. Minnesota is the only other dual team truly in contention for the top spot.

Rankings will be released later this week.

Yeah, I noticed that as well. Interesting that ISU only dropped to #2; it did end up being a close match towards the end, and I'm not sure how the wrestling ratings really work.

I do like seeing all 3 state universities in the Top 25, though. That's something for everyone to be proud of.

I was just thinking how cool this would be if this were the BCS rankings....seeing Iowa on the top...

I know... me = loser....

LOL; then it would be Iowa vs. ISU in the national championship game. Talk about bragging rights.... :D

18. Hofstra (18th)

....

Hofstra's ranked? Kick ass. Anyone ever heard Bill Cosby's standup on Hofstra? It's from WAYYYY back (60s?) -- my parents used to have it on vinyl. It cracked me up. He played football for Temple, and supposedly Hofstra used to beat them "900 to nothin'".

Hofstra's ranked?

Well, let's talk about that...up until two years ago Tom Ryan was the head coach at Hofstra where he coached for 11 years including conference championships in his last six years there.

So who is Tom Ryan? Well, he was a two-time all-American, two-time Big Ten champion and a member of two national championship team at Iowa. He left Hofstra for the head coaching job at Ohio State, where he still is.

Last year Hofstra was ranked as high as third in the nation and had as many as nine ranked wrestlers on their roster. Their signature win was knocking off then #1 Minnesota 18-17. Hofstra finished seventh at the NCAA championships and four wrestlers earned all-American status.

These guys are pretty good.

Last year, all the Big Ten teams were ranked at one time. It was pretty cool.

Good to see Brands has the program headed in the right direction. Hopefully, they can stay out of trouble off the mat and not be bitten by the injury bug.

GO HAWKS!!!

I still believe Minnesota is the team to beat this year, with Iowa and Iowa State being close seconds. How either of us stack up in tournament wrestling is still in the air though, so I'm not sure how I'd place them (2/3). The top three this year is a giant cluster-mess on who is the best.

Well, as we saw last Sunday, both Iowa and ISU are very evenly matched. IMO, had Perry been back, it could have been a 23-10 meet (speculation), but the final overall score doesn't show hoe close this meet actually was.

We'll see how they do in tourneys this year - so far, the Iowa wrestlers have done pretty well in the few tournaments they've been in, but the competition also wasn't really all that tough. We'll see how things roll around come Midlands, the Big Ten Tournament, and the NCAA.
